Twidget – Twitter Stream On Your iPhone Lockscreen.
For many Twitter addicts using iPhones, theres always the constant need of having Apps that grant quicker access to Twitter without the need for the loading times. Some apps have been successful at this,, such as qStatus (Initially released as a Jailbreak App called qTweeter, which allows for quick status updates only) etc.
I was asked on Twitter last night to recommend a fully featured Twitter client that shows if you have tweets on home screen, by that i assumed he meant..Lockscreen..so my Googling starts.. ”Twitter iPhone lockscreen”, ..and Bingo!, tho the results was as i expected, it’ll have to be a Jailbroken App (Utility).
Twidget - A convenient Lockscreen widget for checking your Twitter feeds. An Application that allows you to view your Twitter streamline on your iPhone Lockscreen. Alongside your streamline, you can also access your @replies, your own tweets, and favorites.
Installation Guide >>
Installation Guide:
- Launch Cydia and search for ‘Twidget’. Note; There are several versions available, you need to install the Utilities one hosted by iSpazio.
- Once installed, there’ll be an icon on your springboard, (see above, Twidget description), launch the App and enter your Twitter credentials.
- Launch Winterboard and activate ‘Twidget’.
You must enter you Twitter info first by launching the App before activating Twidget via Winterboard, otherwise you’ll be presented with a loading screen that never displays the tweets.
Once all this is done, lock your phone, press the home button and you should be presented with the screenshot below.
This is a pretty decent application that only displays tweets, you can’t compose new tweets, reply, or click and view links in a tweet. Another downside to this app is that the lockscreen doesn’t stay on long enough to enable you to scroll through your streamline without the constant need to press that home button and activate it again. It would be nice if the App integrates a function where it overrides the default lockscreen timeout and stay on while you’re still navigating tweets.
Another little worry i have is just how much of a memory, battery hog this App can be, if you’re running this App on your device, have you noticed any battery or memory drainage?
Overall, for those that constantly need to check on their streamline and don’t have the time to wait for their desired fully functional Twitter client to load, this is a good solution.
Your device needs to be Jailbroken to use this Application
